HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (August 1, 2012/11:00 AM) – The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an assault and robbery that occurred outside a South end bar early this morning.
Just before 2:30 am this morning, Sheriff’s deputies responded to Callahan’s Sports Bar (49 New Orleans Rd.) in reference to a strong arm robbery that had occurred moments earlier. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with 21-year old male victim who advised he’d robbed while getting into his vehicle.
The victim advised that earlier in the evening, he and his friend had been approached by an unknown black male offering to sell them marijuana. The men refused and had no further contact with the subject. They advised that as they were walking to their car after leaving the bar for the night, the same subject again approached them.
The subject assaulted the victim, taking an undisclosed amount of cash from the victim’s pockets. The subject then fled on foot towards Fountain Center. The victim’s friend, who witnessed the attack, attempted to chase after the subject, but lost him as he climbed a fence. The victim sustained minor injuries, not requiring medical attention.
The suspect was described as a black male between 20-25 years of age, approximately 5’11”, 200 lbs, wearing blue jeans and a white Tommy Hilfiger polo shirt.
