Suspect Arrested in Shooting Incident

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (March 23/2:00 PM) – A Hilton Head Island man is in custody following a shooting/stabbing incident that occurred last night on the North end of the island.

David Aiken

Forty-eight year old David Aiken of 227 Mitchellville Rd was arrested on charges of Attempted Murder and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Violent Crime after reportedly stabbing then shooting 36-year old George Glover.

According to Glover, he had been at Aiken’s house along with several other friends, drinking and hanging out. At approximately 9:30 pm, he and Aiken became involved in a verbal dispute over money. The argument escalated when Aiken produced a utility knife. Glover sustained two lacerations during the fight, one to the shoulder and another to the torso.

After stabbing Glover, Aiken went inside his home, returning with a small caliber rifle. The fight continued, during which Aiken fired one shot, striking Glover in the foot.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to an anonymous report of a disturbance at the home at approximately 9:45 pm. Upon arrival, Aiken and other guests at the home told deputies that there was no problem and no incident occurring there. Glover was not on scene at this time.

Thirty minutes later, the Sheriff’s Office received notification from the Hilton Head Regional Medical Center emergency room staff that a patient had come in suffering from a gunshot wound and several stab wounds. Deputies made contact with George Glover at the hospital who advised them of the fight and identified his attacker as David Aiken. Deputies then returned to the home, where they located and detained Aiken.

After executing a search warrant at the home and re-interviewing witnesses, Aiken was placed under arrest. Due to a number of conflicting details in the accounts of the incident, the investigation remains active at this time. Anyone with information is asked to contact Investigator SSgt A. Viens at 843-255-3406 or the Beaufort County Dispatch Center at 843-524-2777.
