Sheriff’s Office Investigating Car Break-Ins at Windmill Harbour

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (March 28/11:30 AM) – The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a series of car break-ins that occurred overnight last Thursday inside a North end gated community.

A total of ten vehicles were reportedly burglarized throughout Windmill Harbour late Thursday night into early Friday morning. Of those ten vehicles, seven had been left unlocked. The remaining three were broken into through windows that were smashed. One vehicle, a 2006 BMW 530XI was stolen and later recovered, undamaged, on nearby Jenkins Rd. The owner advised that the vehicle had been left unlocked with the keys inside.

Among the property reported stolen were: wallets, credit cards, a purse, cash, an IPhone, and sunglasses. The total estimated value of the stolen property was approximately $10,000.

Due to similarities noted between this rash of car break-ins and another recent series of car break-ins in Bluffton’s Island West community, investigators are working under the possibility of the two incidents being related to one another, possibly with a common suspect.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information regarding this incident to contact either Investigator Cpl. B. Cooler at 843-255-3423 or the Beaufort County Dispatch Center at 843-524-2777.
