Shots Fired near Beaufort Apartment Complex

BEAUFORT, SC (February 27, 2012/11:00 AM) – The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office recovered an assault rifle following a report of shots fired early Saturday morning outside a Beaufort apartment complex.

At approximately 4:00 am Saturday, Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of Magnolia Park Apartments (314 Laurel Bay Rd) in reference to an anonymous complaint of shots fired. Upon arrival, they located a silver BMW in a ditch near the parking lot and observed a white male subject standing in the woods nearby.

Deputies made contact with the subject, identified as 21-year old Aaron Marshall Frese, who was grossly intoxicated and uncooperative. While Frese was being placed under arrest for Public Disorderly Conduct, deputies spotted a second white male running through the woods.

A Sheriff’s Office K9 responded to search the area, and during the search a Smith and Wesson AR-15 and a magazine for the weapon was located in the tree line. Found with the weapon was clothing and a baseball cap. Spent shell casings consistent with the weapon were found in front of the 300 building, however, no signs of damage or injury were noted to any structures, cars, or persons.

The possible second subject was not located and has not been identified. Frese declined to provide any information during the investigation and has not been charged with any offense(s) involving the weapon or the shots fired. The vehicle was identified as belonging to Frese and was towed from the scene with minor damage.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information to contact the Beaufort County Dispatch Center at 843-524-2777.
