ST. HELENA ISLAND, SC (April 12, 2013/9:00 AM) – Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office investigators have identified a St. Helena man in the April 11th shooting on Stiney Rd.

Twenty-five year old Ervin Smalls, II is wanted on charges of Attempted Murder, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Violent Crime and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Smalls was positively identified as the suspect who shot and injured a 40-year old male victim outside a home on Shiney Rd last week.

According to witnesses, the victim was visiting with several individuals outside the home at 9 Shiney Rd when Smalls suddenly approached and began shooting. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and fled the area, returning to his Saxonville Rd home where he contacted law enforcement.

The shooting is believed to be in relation to an on-going dispute between the two men over money Smalls believed he was owed by the victim. The victim advised that he and Smalls had had several confrontations over the matter, including a physical altercation that had taken place at Island Plaza two weeks prior to the shooting.

The victim sustained non-life threatening injury as a result of the April 11th shooting. He was treated at Beaufort Memorial and has since been released.

Smalls last known address is 77 Coffin Point Rd on St. Helena. He is also known to frequent locations on Seaside Rd. Smalls is a black male, approximately 6’02”, 175 lbs with short hair. He has “Island Boy” with two palm trees tattooed on his right forearm, and “Carol” tattooed on his neck. Smalls should be regarded as armed and dangerous.
