HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (September 18, 2012/12:00 PM) – A Hilton Head Island man has been arrested in relation to the Labor Day weekend armed robbery of a store in Sea Pines.

Twenty-three year old Rion Marcel Beaty of Mitchellville Rd was arrested outside a Bluffton apartment complex yesterday afternoon on outstanding warrants for Armed Robbery, Grand Larceny, and Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime. At the time of his arrest, he was also discovered to be in possession of a quantity of marijuana and was subsequently charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana.

Beaty was identified by multiple witnesses as the suspect who robbed the South Beach General Store (232 S. Beach Dr.) just after 10 pm on the night of Sunday, September 2nd. Beaty initially entered the store, posing as a customer, asking about additional merchandise. He then left the store, only to return moments later wearing a bandana over his face and brandishing a handgun.

After demanding and being given an undisclosed amount of cash from the store’s safe, Beaty fled the area, leaving employees and patrons unharmed.

Beaty was taken into custody without incident after he was located getting into a vehicle at Plantation Pointe Apartments (897 Fording Island Rd). He was transported to the Beaufort County Detention Center where he remains awaiting bond hearings.
